Costco Partners with Sesame to Launch Affordable Weight Loss Program for Members
Costco is teaming up with its healthcare partner, Sesame, to introduce a weight loss program for its members. This program, set to launch on April 2, will be available to Costco members in the United States at a cost of $179 every three months. Sesame’s CEO, David Goldhill, expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the accessibility and affordability of high-quality specialty care like weight loss management.
This initiative follows Costco and Sesame’s previous collaborations, which include affordable primary care physician visits for $29 and virtual mental health therapy sessions for $79. The decision to expand into weight loss services was driven by customer demand, with weight loss being the top search term among Costco members seeking primary care on Sesame.
For $179 every three months, Costco members enrolled in the weight loss program will receive three months of clinical consultation, the ability to choose their clinician, an initial live video consultation, messaging with the clinician between appointments, a nutritional guide, and personalized treatment plans tailored to individual needs. Sesame clinicians will conduct thorough medical assessments and provide guidance on diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications. Additionally, when deemed appropriate, clinicians may prescribe weight loss medications like Ozempic, depending on the patient’s eligibility and assessment.
It’s important to note that Sesame operates as a two-way health marketplace where consumers and healthcare providers can connect for a low fee, without accepting insurance. While Costco members receive a discount on Sesame’s services, non-members can still access them at a slightly higher price. Sesame offers a wide range of healthcare services, primarily delivered virtually but with some in-person options available.
